We take your privacy very seriously. Except for information you submit for publication, we will not share any other information you give us with anyone else unless required by law. We will never sell, rent or distribute in any way the information that you share with us in confidence. We respect your privacy and we want you to feel comfortable while using our services.

About us

Big Leaf, LLC ("Big Leaf", "Publisher", "we", "us", "our") is a publishing business registered in the state of Colorado, USA. We develop and operate websites like Palindromedary.us to inform and entertain our visitors, as well as to publish original creations by authors who submit their work to us.

Palindromedary.us ("Website") provides a set of tools to registered members that speed the process of composing palindromes. Members who choose to submit their palindromes to us enjoy the benefits of publication on our Website and in anthologies, collections of palindromes with stories by the authors, published in book format.

This Privacy Policy exists to inform you of our privacy practices on our Website. This Privacy Policy applies to the Website, and to any future applications for mobile devices.

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on the Website and asking you to accept the new policy when you login. We suggest you login frequently to learn of any changes in a timely manner.

Personally Identifiable Information

We collect Personally Identifiable Information ("PII") via the Website. PII is any information that may be used to contact, identify or locate an individual, and includes, but is not limited to, your name and email address. Big Leaf usually collects PII as follows:

  • When you choose to provide us with your PII via the Website. Such cases include, 1) when you use our contact form to send a message, 2) you send us an email directly. We use that information to respond to you and will store it for a reasonable time.
  • When you register on our Website to become a member ("Member"). The registration form requires these items: Username, First Name, Last Name, Email, and Password. This group is known as "Member Information". We use this information to maintain your account and facilitate your access to the member's area. We also use the Member Information to contact you by email regarding your account, and to inform you of events or offers, from Big Leaf or third parties, that may interest you. You may decide at any time to end such messages by following the unsubscribe instructions in each message.
  • You submit a palindrome and related information. The related information includes your chosen Author Name (which may be different than the name you used to register as a member), your Author Story, the palindrome, and the Palindrome Story. This information is distinct and separate from your Member Information. All of this information is intended for publication, at our discrection, and is subject to editing by us. To the extent this information is PII, the responsibility for its content and accuracy rests solely with you. We intend to publish this information at a time and in a manner of our choosing.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information

Big Leaf also collects non-personally identifiable information ("Non-PII") via the Website. Non-PII is information that, on its own, may not be used to identify or locate a person or entity. It includes your IP address, browser type, and your computer's operating system. Big Leaf collects Non-PII in the following circumstances:

  • When you use the Website, the Big Leaf servers automatically collect Non-PII, which may include but is not limited to, the Non-PII items described above, and web pages viewed. We use this information to improve the Website, and for reporting purposes.
  • When you register on the Website and visit as a logged-in member, the Big Leaf servers automatically collect the Non-PII items described above, your interactions with Big Leaf's Web Applications (for example, the Palindrome Composer), and your interactions with Big Leaf's staff. We retain this Non-PII on our servers as part of your registered account. We use this information internally to analyze the aggregate activities and preferences of our registered Website members.

Cookies and Tracking Pixels

Big Leaf uses "cookies" in connection with the Website and the Service. A cookie is a small data file that the Big Leaf servers transfer to your computer for record-keeping purposes. Big Leaf uses "persistent cookies" to save your username and login password for future logins to the Website. Big Leaf uses "session ID cookies" to better understand how you interact with the Website. Big Leaf also uses tracking pixels (sometimes called "1x1 pixels" or "transparent pixels"), which are small images on a web page or in an email message, used to transfer activity data.

Third Party Data Collection

Big Leaf may use third-party companies to serve ads, which may involve collecting Non-PII (like the pages you visit, which links you click, which ads you see and click, categories of search terms you use, and limited demographic data such as age and gender) when you visit the Big Leaf Website.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

In addition to the data collection and use practices outlined above, we may share or otherwise disclose information to third parties under the following circumstances.

Aggregate Information and Non-Identifying Information

Big Leaf may share aggregated information with trusted partners as well as the press in order to demonstrate usage of the Service, and for publicity purposes. Such aggregated information has no PII content.

Service Providers

Big Leaf may employ third party companies and individuals for business reasons. These reasons may include, but are not limited to, billing and credit card processing, Website maintenance, Website hosting, web analytics, and administration). These third parties have access to PII only as necessary to complete their jobs on our behalf, and are bound by contract to not disclose or use it for any other purpose.

Compliance with Laws and Law Enforcement

Big Leaf cooperates with government and law enforcement officials and private parties to enforce and comply with the law. Big Leaf will disclose any information about you to government or law enforcement officials or private parties as Big Leaf, in it's sole discretion, believes necessary or appropriate to respond to claims and legal processes (including but not limited to subpoenas), to protect the property and rights of Big Leaf or a third party, to protect the safety of the public or any person, or to prevent or stop any activity Big Leaf may consider to be, or poses a risk of being, illegal, unethical, inappropriate or legally actionable.

Business Transfers

Big Leaf may sell, transfer or otherwise share some or all of its assets, including PII and any other information it has, in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, or in the event of bankruptcy.

Changing or Deleting Your Information

Anyone with a registered Website account may review, update or correct the PII in their registration profile by logging into their account and visiting the "My Account" page. Big Leaf may retain an archived copy of your records as required by law or for legitimate business purposes. If you'd like Big Leaf to delete any PII that it has on you, please log in and request deletion of your Member account via the Contact form.

Members may also request deletion of unpublished palindromes and related information. This does not apply to already published items, including those published on the Website and in anthologies. It does apply to submitted palindromes that were reserved for the next anthology, so long as the request is made before our internal pre-release deadline. Big Leaf will make all reasonable efforts to remove such palindromes before the anthology goes to press. To delete such palindromes, please log in and request deletion via the Contact form.

Information Security

The security of your information is important to us, including but not limited to the PII collected via the Website and Service. We have implemented reasonable security measures to protect the information in our care, both during transmission and once we receive it. Our methods include, but are not limited to, firewalls and encryption. No means of data transmission over the Internet, nor electronic storage, however, is totally secure. Consequently, though we use industry best practices to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Storage in the USA

Information collected on this Website, can reside on computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the privacy laws may be less stringent than those in your location. If you are located outside the USA and choose to provide information to Big Leaf, please be aware that we transfer PII to the USA and process it there. Your acceptance of this Privacy Policy and your submission of such information represents your consent to that transfer.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

This privacy policy is subject to change. If we make any significant changes in how we use the information collected through the Website, we will post a clear and conspicuous notice of those changes on the Website and in this privacy policy. All members have the option to accept the changes or request account deletion by the means mentioned above.
